And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. All things were created through Him and for Him. Paul writes to the Colossians, ‘For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. (John 1:1, 14)’ Isaiah prophesies that a Son would be given who would bear the government upon His shoulders and who would be called “Everlasting Father” (See Isaiah 9:6). John testifies, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

The scriptures very clearly point out His eternal existence. JESUS IS THE GLORY OF GOD – The Deity of Jesus Christ (Piper 2004, 21)’ 1, Jesus stooped low and shared in our humanity. We exist in order to enjoy making much of him. We find that though He is infinitely higher and greater, as Piper says: ‘Christ does not exist in order to make much of us. That the infinite almighty God came to dwell among us in our frame and know our struggles stirs up awe, wonder, and love in the heart of the believer. John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else.Christ’s deity and humanity are a cause for our loving adoration. Jesus said, "If anyone's will is to do God's will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority." Ask God for the grace to do his will, and you will see the truth of his Son.

Keep your eyes open, and fill them with the portrait of Jesus in God's Word. He calmed a raging storm with a word but would not get himself down from the cross. He baffled proud scribes with his wisdom but was understood and loved by children. The depth and complexity of Jesus shatter our simple mental frameworks. How? Jesus Christ-the divine Person revealed in the Bible-has a unique excellence and a spiritual beauty that speaks directly to our souls and says, "Yes, this is truth." It's like seeing the sun and knowing that it is light, or tasting honey and knowing that it is sweet.

You've never met him in person, and you don't know anyone who has.
